When it comes to human judgement, it’s almost always subjective. Our judgement is colored by a lot of things, our value system, our religion, communities we consider ourselves to be part of, our education, out families, what we do for a living etc. etc. The subtlest of them being our ego and the purpose of our life, which are mostly hidden from the majority. When you form opinions, it’s very difficult to stand out from the crowd, the society as we derive our identity from the society. It’s easy to take a moral stand when you see others around you taking the same stand. You know you have support. And support of community is what all humans look for especially in times of adversity.

You can call someone right or wrong based on your acquired beliefs and knowledge. And it’s easier to do when a lot of others are doing the same. But what price is one willing to pay to keep holding on to what one believes is right? And especially when no one else believes in what you believe in. Would you still continue to stick to your leftist or right wing ideology if it costs you your livelihood. It surely is not easy as we are governed by laws of nature. When our survival is at threat, our primal instincts take over.

Look at the life stories of some of the realized saints, scientists, thinkers. While they were alive most of them were not accepted by the society at large, their teachings were shunned as it didn’t fit the patterns of societal existence. What they said was completely new. Society threatened them and when they didn’t give in, some were even persecuted for holding onto their ideas and propagating them. It takes spiritual strength to first realize and then say the truth. And there is a price you have to pay for being the proponent of truth.

Debates on who or what is right or wrong are futile. In our lives we all get opportunities to practice what we deeply believe in. And it take courage and strength to do that. Courage and strength don’t come cheap. You have to invest your life to acquire them. There needs to be something a lot bigger than your own selfish interests driving your life, bigger in the sense that it benefits humanity at large. That is when life and the cosmos become your ally and teacher, handholding you through some tough life lessons, granting you the courage and strength to turn your ideas and beliefs into reality.
