From shallow to deep

Indulge in conversations that are enriching. Shallow talks about the weather and food are ok to break the ice but if you engage in meaningless conversations about topics that have no relevance in your life or worse collectively whining about how miserable life is, you are sure to make your life a lot more miserable than it actually is.

Surround yourself with people who motivate you, people who are trying to improve, people who have depth and a positive outlook towards life. If you can't find such people around yourself, it's a lot better to be alone. Cultivate the habit to read books, about different aspects of life, about things you feel passionate about. Time spent in the company of learned men will enrich your life in ways you had never imagined.

It's not an option but an obligation to find purpose and meaning in life. And by purpose and meaning I don't mean earning money or taking care of your family. That sure is an important task being a part of the social structure but not one that gives your existence a meaning.

An ordinary mundane existence with your life being entirely consumed by activities that ensure mere biological survival and a lot of time spent seeking lowly sensory pleasures, may look innocuous but beware, it isn't.

A life of depth and meaning is its own reward, a shallow meaningless life its own punishment.
