Action consciousness, the reason and way out

Why is man so action conscious? The root lies in how one defines oneself. Usually when one says ‘I’, one is speaking of the ‘ego’ or ‘aham’. The ego primarily is made up of of what one calls as mine. The body with its senses, mind, intellect, sanskars etc. And it feeds on action, the sense of doership is what sustains and inflates the ego. A state of non doership starts to dissolve the ego making the man restless.

Man knows no other existence except the one based on doership and the reason is not hard to see. Consciousness in itself is an eternal awareful witness, the light of which makes all actions possible. Atman or consciousness itself is a non-doer. It is unchaging, unaffected, complete in itself. Atman is sat (truth), chitt (consciousness), anand(bliss).

People quote sermons from Gita about being a karma yogi to justify being involved in action as the purpose of life. Sadly their ignorance of deep spiritual truths causes them to continue leading a so called action packed life full of stress, anxieties with an occasional ephemeral episode of excitement that one tends to brand as happiness.

Karma yoga truly means being free from the sense of doership. Only by being an akarta or non doer which atman or consciousness truly is, can you perform an action and still remain unaffected by its results. Soul consciousness is the highest possible state of existence and only way out of the miserable existence based on action.
